The legend of Eddy Pineiro only continues to grow. One of the Gators’ most anticipated signees of the offseason, Pineiro continues to work hard this summer to live up to the hype.

The true freshman kicker posted this video Sunday showing off not only his prized leg but his ability to convert a long-distance kick in the face of added pressure:

Of course he made it.

If you aren’t familiar with Pineiro yet, you soon will be. The 20-year-old kicker converted four of his field goal attempts during the spring game including kicks from 52 yards and 56 yards out. After the Gators only managed to convert seven of 17 field goals in Jim McElwain’s first season in Gainesville — not including five missed extra points, Pineiro is all but assured to land the starting role this fall.

Pineiro was of course originally committed to Alabama before switching his pledge to the Gators, which should only endear him to the Florida faithful all the more. The ability to hit a 77-yard field goal doesn’t hurt either:

During SEC Media Days this week, McElwain did his best to hide his excitement for his new kicker when asked about Pineiro.

“We’ll see. I don’t think the guy has ever kicked in a game,” McElwain said. “But we’ll find out… Obviously, he’s got a very strong leg, talking about Eddy.”

If the Gators main weakness in 2015 turns into one of the team’s strongest weapon in 2016, there’s no telling how far Florida can go in McElwain’s second season in Gainesville. If the championship comes down to a kick, the Gators have to like their odds with Pineiro lining up to take the kick.
