What Dan Mullen said following his first win over Kirby Smart's Georgia program
Coach Dan Mullen had plenty of reason to celebrate after Florida snapped a three-game losing streak to Georgia with a 44-28 victory on Saturday in Jacksonville.
It was Mullen’s most significant victory in three years in Gainesville, and now the Gators have an inside edge to win the SEC East, and have positioned themselves in the College Football Playoff picture.
QB Kyle Trask completed 30-of-43 passes for a career-high 474 yards, and played a large chunk of the game without TE Kyle Pitts. Pitts was knocked out of the game in the second quarter on Georgia safety Lewis Cine’s bone-crushing hit over the middle. Cine was ejected for targeting.
Here’s what Mullen told the media after the game:
Mullen asked about him celebrating and jumping into the stands, he says you gotta enjoy it. It’s been a tough year on everyone and he enjoyed it, enjoyed watching the guys win.
“We’re gonna celebrate tonight. I’m going to celebrate tonight.”

“It was a big win for us. Anytime you have a top-10 matchup, those are big games.” — Mullen

“We’ll see. That was a big hit.” — Mullen on TE Kyle PItts, said trainers will re-evaluate him during week.

“They have worked their tail off to be in this situation.” — Mullen on #Gators … says he plans to celebrate some tonight, then on to Arkansas tomorrow.

“I thought he did a really good job of managing the game and making the throws he needed to make.” — Mullen on Trask … adds that he would have liked more efficiency at the end.

‘Our guys were maybe a little shell-shocked … Nobody panicked,’ Dan Mullen said of #Gators 14-0 deficit out of the gate.

Dan Mullen says “we’ll see” when asked if Kyle Trask is in the Heisman Trophy watch…. he says he doesn’t have a vote, he’s having a great year though.

Reminded Dan that he said it’s harder to go from 10 wins to 11 than it was to go from 4 wins to 10 and asked what it takes to stay on top of East now: “Well can we get to 12 wins? I was told there would be no math. Is 12 wins a National Championship? I’ll take that.”

“If we can find a way to continue to improve maybe we can have more top-10 matchups.”
— Nick de la Torre (@NickdelaTorreGC) November 8, 2020
Mullen says “I don’t know about that” when asked if this is a changing of the guard in the SEC East. “We need to focus on Arkansas. I don’t know if this will have an effect on next year’s game just like last year didn’t affect this one.”
— Nick de la Torre (@NickdelaTorreGC) November 8, 2020
Mullen asked about Kyle Pitts: “We’ll see. Trainer said he would be out for the game. We’ll see how he is as the week goes on.”
