Former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray appeared on “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on WJOX radio out of Birmingham, Alabama, on Thursday.

Among the topics of discussion? What it was like to play for offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. Bobo, who played for Georgia at quarterback, was their offensive coordinator and quarterback coach from 2007-2014, coinciding with Murray’s time with the program. Now, Bobo is the offensive coordinator under Bryan Harsin at Auburn.

Murray says that Bobo was tough on him a lot during practice and pushed him at times to his limit:

“He will grind you down. He’s great, and he is a perfectionist,” said Murray. Murray thinks that Bobo is that way because his dad was a coach and because Bobo played the position as well.

Murray also said that Bobo stayed on his back a lot during practice and even if  Murray did a drill right, Bobo would sometimes make him do it over.

“There was never an easy day. … He wore me down. … He was always pushing you to the limit to be the best you could be,” Murray said.

Although Bobo was tough on him during practice, Murray said when it came to game time, he was the quarterback’s cheerleader.

“On game day, he was your best friend,” Murray said. “He wanted to make practice super hard so the game would be a little bit easier.”

Murray said as the years passed, he and Bobo developed a great relationship but thinks Bobo will push Auburn quarterback Bo Nix to the limit as well.
