Baker Mayfield forced to change cell phone number after Georgia fans bombard him
The Rose Bowl matchup between Oklahoma and Georgia is still a few weeks away, but the rivalry between the two fan bases is already in full swing.
In fact, Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield — the likely Heisman Trophy winner — has already had to change his cell phone number ahead of the College Football Playoff semifinal matchup.
Mayfield posted on Twitter early Monday morning to applaud the “encouragement” he has been receiving from Georgia fans since his number got posted:
To whoever posted my cell #, bravo. But I got it changed! And to the Georgia fans that had the kind words of encouragement… I applaude your creativity

Though it is likely some of the messages to Mayfield crossed the line, it’s good to see that the Oklahoma quarterback has a good sense of humor about the whole thing.
As a player who has made headlines for some of his on-field antics directed at opponents, he understands it’s not personal — it’s just about winning.
The Rose Bowl should be quite a game on New Year’s Day, and it will be very interesting to see if the Georgia defense can slow Mayfield down, especially now that he has some extra motivation.
