After another season that didn’t meet expectations, Georgia is going for a fresh start with new coach Kirby Smart. Bulldogs fans are excited about the future, but there are still a few concerns.

Here are five key questions facing the Bulldogs this offseason:

5. RESTOCKING THE OFFENSIVE LINE

Because redshirt senior Hunter Long took over at center in the middle of the season, Georgia is losing three starting offensive linemen. That includes All-SEC RT John Theus.

The Bulldogs have three offensive linemen committed for the 2016 recruiting class. If Georgia hopes to continue dominating defenses with its running game, the program will have to rebuild the offensive line quickly.

4. REPLACING SIX DEFENSIVE STARTERS

Reloading on defense is going to take even more work. Georgia will need to replace five senior starters. That includes the team’s leading tackler LB Jake Ganus and all three starters on the defensive line.

Ganus had 101 total tackles, two interceptions, one forced fumble and 1.0 sack.

Junior LB Leonard Floyd, who led the team with 4.5 sacks, is leaving for the NFL Draft.

Georgia has four incoming commits to replenish the front seven, but more recruits are necessary.

3. SMART’S EXTENDED STAY

It should be interesting to see if Smart’s extended stay at Alabama has any effect on Georgia’s 2016 class. Normally, new head coaches leave their current job prior to the bowl games, but Smart decided to stay as the defensive coordinator at Alabama through its national title run.

Though the admirable and definitely the correct choice, the decision could have some effect on Georgia. The Bulldogs have 14 commits — the second-fewest among SEC teams — for the 2016 class, according to 247 Sports. A former Georgia player, Smart will have to hit the road quickly after the title game and complete his staff to avoid falling further behind.

2. CHUBB’S RECOVERY

Athletes heal from major knee injuries all the time nowadays, but there is no guarantee that sophomore RB Nick Chubb fully recovers from a gruesome knee injury suffered against  Tennessee in October.

Though Georgia was still one of the best rushing teams in the SEC, the Bulldogs need him back in some capacity to be a contender in the SEC East in 2016. Chubb rushed for 747 yards and seven TDs while averaging a whopping 8.1 yards per carry in 2015.

1. WHO’S THE QB?

This seems to be the No. 1 question around the conference: who will start under center next season for the Georgia Bulldogs?

Junior Greyson Lambert is returning, but he certainly struggled at times during his first season. Lambert finished the year with just 1,959 passing yards and 12 TDs. On the bright side, though, he only had two interceptions and wasn’t intercepted in his final five games. He also averaged a respectable 7.7 yards per attempt. Brice Ramsey, who also played last season, is another possibility.

Although Lambert or Ramsey may start the season under center, it would be a surprise if incoming commit Jacob Eason doesn’t get a crack at starting at some point in 2016. Eason is a five-star commit and the No. 1 ranked pro-style QB in the 2016 recruiting class, according to 247 Sports.

It appears to be only a matter of time until Eason takes over – the question is when?
