As Georgia strives for a second consecutive national title, Brock Bowers could be in line for some individual hardware.

Bowers was selected as 1 of 3 finalists for the John Mackey Award, given to the nation’s top tight end. The other finalists are Iowa’s Sam LaPorta and Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Bowers has amassed 46 receptions for 645 yards and 5 touchdowns with an average of 14.0 yards per catch this season. The sensational sophomore had 2 games this season with at least 120 receiving yards. Bowers collected 5 receptions for 154 yards and a touchdown in a 42-20 win vs. Florida on Oct. 29. Bowers tallied 5 receptions for 121 yards and 2 touchdown in a 48-7 victory vs. South Carolina on Sept. 17.

Bowers was last season’s SEC Freshman of the Year after compiling 56 receptions, 882 yards, and 13 touchdowns for the national champions. Bowers holds the Georgia record for most touchdowns in a season by a tight end. Bowers also earned second-team All-American honors during his freshman season.

Undefeated No. 1 Georgia will clash with No. 5 LSU in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday. Kickoff of the conference title matchup is slated for 4 p.m. ET (CBS).
