One of the biggest storylines in college football last weekend was Howard QB Caylin Newton, the younger brother of former NFL MVP and 2010 Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton.

In his first-ever college start, Caylin, a freshman, led Howard — a 45-point underdog — to a stunning 43-40 win over UNLV.

It’s safe to say Cam noticed his brother’s success. In an interview with Panthers.com, Cam said he was teasing current Carolina teammate and former Bulldog Thomas Davis about Georgia missing out on his brother (via AL.com):

“I was teasing Thomas,” Newton said. “I said, ‘Man, listen: Georgia needs a winner, and every Newton I know is a winner. You dig what I’m saying?’ So they missed out on yet another one.”

Both Cam and Caylin played high school football in the Atlanta area, with the elder Newton starting his college career at Florida before ending up at Auburn.

Whether Caylin stays at Howard all four years remains to be seen, but if his first start for the Bisons was any indication, another Newton could soon be dominating college football.
