If you missed the news, Roquan Smith was the unfortunate victim of a robbery over the weekend. Someone got into his vehicle and stole a number of his one-of-kind Georgia memorabilia, including his game-worn jerseys from the team’s epic Playoff run last season, his UGA helmet, along with several other personal items. An iPad featuring the Chicago Bears gameplan was also stolen from the vehicle.

Fortunately, the thief has been caught and the items have been returned to Smith. Soon after that, Smith issued his public thanks to everyone that sent their thoughts and prayers and those that helped recover the items, singling out local law enforcement for their efforts.

While most wouldn’t blame Smith for getting robbed, Chicago Tribune columnist Steve Rosenbloom took a completely different approach. Following Smith’s selection in the 2018 NFL Draft with the 8th overall pick, Rosenbloom has called out Chicago’s decision making after drafting a player who would get robbed a week in the future.

Yes, you read that right, Rosenbloom called out the Bears for Smith getting robbed. Chicago should have seen that one coming, clearly.

He also poked fun at how a college student like Smith could afford a car like a BMW. Had Rosenbloom done any research, he would have found out Smith has publicly made it known that the Athens BMW dealership has signed him to a sponsorship deal — that’s how he got his vehicle that was robbed.

After learning of his blunder, Rosenbloom has issued an apology to Smith but only on one aspect of his original column — he has apologized for not knowing about Smith’s sponsorship deal with the Athens BMW dealer. He appears to be sticking to his guns about the Bears seeing into the future in the next draft.

Too bad Rosenbloom can’t see in the future himself, he could have avoided this bad omission in the first place if he could.
