Jacksonville, Florida, native Carson Beck was one of the most sought after QBs of the 2020 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-5 pocket passer committed to Alabama early in the process (for seven months) only to later decommit in February. Following about a month of being uncommitted, Beck then pulled the trigger for the Georgia Bulldogs.

AL.com’s Josh Bean caught up with Beck at the Elite 11 workouts, and he explained why he decommitted from the Tide and later committed to the Bulldogs.

“Every since about eighth grade, I had always wanted to play at Georgia,” Beck told AL.com. “That was kind of like my dream school in a way, and they never offered me early. Obviously, I liked Alabama. Nick Saban, great coach. I respect him, have full respect for him.

“But whenever all the offensive staff started leaving and I was like, ‘I have no one to talk to. I don’t know any of these guys. I really don’t have a relationship with them,’” Beck said. “So, when I de-committed, I still considered Alabama, I wanted to meet the new coaches, and that’s when Georgia came in.

“And I just absolutely fell in love with their coaching staff, and honestly the reason I chose Georgia is I feel like those coaches can develop me to get me where I want to be.”

Once Beck decommitted from Alabama, Florida entered the picture in a big way. The Gators were feeling good about Beck until Georgia offered. Then, Beck committed to UGA following the offer.

Beck threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 39 TDs while leading his high school team (Mandarin) to a state championship last year.

The 4-star pocket passer is rated as the No. 4 overall pro-style QB and the state of Florida’s No. 11 overall prospect for the class of 2020, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
