A miscommunication by the Florida offense led to a momentum-swinging play for Georgia.

Cornerback Eric Stokes returned an interception 36 yards on third down to give Georgia another seven-point lead in a high-scoring shootout in Jacksonville early in the second quarter. Florida rushed to the line of scrimmage as Georgia looked to substitute players on its defense, and a rushed throw from Kyle Trask that went between Kadarius Toney and Xzavier Henderson was picked off by Stokes.

Florida went hurry-up on that third-down, but the Gators became confused, or Georgia settled itself in the exact places it needed to be to get the pick. Stokes came off defending Henderson to step in front of Toney to make the play. He then stayed up, and found several blockers down the sideline to score. It was Stokes’ second Pick Six of the season for Georgia.

It was a rare defensive play in a game that was dominated by both offenses. The first quarter ended with 299 yards between the two teams, zero penalties, and a 14-14 score.

Florida responded with a two-play, 75-yard scoring drive as Kyle Pitts scored in a blink of an eye for the Gators to tie the game once more.

It appears that both teams will need more plays like this if the offensive shootout continues.
