Erik Ainge drew the ire of Georgia fans after his remarks leading up to the Bulldogs’ game against Tennessee at Sanford Stadium. The former Volunteers quarterback on Tuesday tweeted that “playing between the hedges is overrated” and that “it’s nothing like playing in Neyland.”

Georgia fans certainly made their voices heard all throughout Saturday’s game. It resulted in 8 pre-snap penalties whistled against the Vols as it ultimately fell to the Bulldogs 27-14. The Dawgs will likely take over the top spot in the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday as a result.

Moments after the game ended, Ainge struck a much more conciliatory tone, congratulating Georgia on Saturday’s win:

To Tennessee’s credit, it shouldn’t drop too far down the rankings on Tuesday. That said, Georgia was clearly the better team on Saturday in front of a deafening Sanford Stadium crowd, and it’s good to see Ainge extending an olive branch toward the Bulldogs faithful after his comments earlier in the week.
