Former Georgia tight end Isaac Nauta is in a familiar position.

After being waived ahead of his rookie season, Nauta started 2019 on the Detriot Lions practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on Nov. 23, 2019. On the active roster, Nauta appeared in six games, recording 2 catches for 13 yards.

This offseason, however, Nauta was unable to keep his roster spot. The Lions waived Nauta as part of 53-man roster cuts on Saturday and have again signed him to the practice squad, a move that was announced Sunday.

It will be interesting to see if Nauta is able to again work his way back up to the active roster this season. Due to COVID-19 measures, practice squad players such as Nauta are more likely to play in games. The NFL has expanded practice squads from 10 to 16 players and is allowing each team to add two players from the practice squad onto the active roster for any game to expand to a 55-man roster.

Nauta, who left Georgia after his junior season, was selected No. 224 overall in the final round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
