We reported last month at the NFL Combine that former Georgia wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie didn’t even consider his pre-draft evaluation or projection before he turned pro, mechanisms that help players make the decision to turn pro or return to college for another season.

Now, I guess we know why.

Georgia’s pro day was Wednesday, and the former electric playmaker said he would have had to appeal to play the 2017 season due to an academic issue.

“I would have had to sit out the spring for academics,” McKenzie said (via Rivals.com). “I would have had to have gone through the appeal for a situation that happened at school and that would have taken me out for the spring. I just told myself I’m not going to sit out and I was just going to leave.”

Obviously, it’s not guaranteed whether or not he would have been granted the appeal; so, in McKenzie’s mind, he chose the safer route and entered the NFL Draft.

The 5-foot-7, 173-pound McKenzie certainly lacks ideal size at wide receiver at the next level, but he could do some damage in the return game in the NFL.

McKenzie left UGA with the school’s record for total return touchdowns (6) and punt return touchdowns (5). He caught 60 passes for 823 yards and seven touchdowns.

It will be interesting to see McKenzie’s career at the next level.
