Steeler Nation has a new face on the field this season and he’s making heads turn.

Former Georgia wide receiver George Pickens is making an impression on not just fans but his new Pittsburgh Steelers teammates, as well.

One teammate in particular, Steelers veteran wide receiver Diontae Johnson, has been impressed with the rookie from training camp.

Per Sports Illustrated, Johnson said: “He’s a freak. That’s a special talent, you can’t teach some of the things he does. I just be watching like, man, I be amazed at how he catches the ball sometimes. He’s young. He’s getting better on the daily.”

The infectious energy on the field, made prevalent from Johnson, is a major boost in the offensive lineup.

It’s going to be a big plus,” Johnson said on the addition of Pickens to the group, per Strackbein. “They’re not going to be able to cover everyone, they can’t double everyone. There’s always going to be a one-on-one matchup, it’s up to the defense who they’re going to cover.”

Now that Pickens is already making a name for himself, even before a regular season game, it adds a layer of promise for veteran players.

Johnson is just one player that could not contain his excitement for the upcoming season with Pickens in the mix, adding more confidence. Also, not to mention, adding more guidance across the board with Pickens available and willing to learn the ins and outs of being an NFL caliber athlete from someone like Johnson.

“Just being there for him. What it’s like to be an NFL receiver when it comes to certain stuff. What you’re doing mid route, off the ball, where to avoid getting [offensive pass interference],” Johnson said.

“Little stuff like that can go a long way just by me telling him what not to do. He knows what to do, I’m just there to critic the little stuff.”

The Steelers will face the Jacksonville Jaguars in a preseason matchup on Saturday, Aug. 20, coming off a win against the Seattle Seahawks 32-25 last week. See for yourself if the rookie, George Pickens, lives up to the hype of Diontae Johnson.
