The Georgia Bulldogs will take on the Murray State Racers this Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. central time.

The game will take place in Athens, Georgia at Sanford Stadium. Sanford Stadium has been the home of the Bulldogs since 1929.

The Georgia Bulldogs enter week two of the college football season ranked number three in the AP Top 25. Murray State is not ranked in the FCS Top 25.

This will be the home opener for the Georgia Bulldogs, and every team wants to win their first home game. Georgia will obviously want to put on a good show for their faithful fans. If Murray State were to win this game, it would be the biggest college football upset of all time.

Georgia vs. Murray State players to watch

Jake Fromm is one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC and is possibly a top-three quarterback in the country. As a Sophomore, Fromm threw for over 2,700 yards and added 30 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Last week, Fromm threw for only 156 yards and a touchdown against Vanderbilt. It will be interesting to see how Fromm responds after a somewhat mediocre performance against Vanderbilt.

Preston Rice will be under center, making his 2nd start for Murray State. Rice is a redshirt Sophomore that played in all 11 games last season as a redshirt Freshman and won the starting job in the offseason. Last week he threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns against Pikeville (NAIA).

D’Andre Swift is one of the most feared running backs in the country. Last year he rushed for over 1,000 yards and added ten rushing touchdowns. Those numbers were good enough to earn him a spot on the Preseason All American list. Last week against Vanderbilt, Swift rushed for 147 yards on only 16 attempts. Murray State is going to have their hands full trying to contain Swift.

DaQuon Green is a name many Florida fans will probably remember. He was a four-star receiver coming out of High School but then transferred to Murray State. He sat out last year, but this year he looks to become Preston Rice’s number one target.

Georgia vs. Murray State odds

Georgia vs. Murray State previous meetings

These two teams last met in 1945, in a game in which Georgia won 49-0.

The largest margin of victory in the series is 49 points in favor of Georgia, and the longest win streak is one game, also held by Georgia.

Georgia Bulldogs week one review

The Bulldogs opened the season on the road in Nashville, against the Vanderbilt Commodores. Georgia didn’t really have any problems in this game. Once the Bulldogs scored, they never looked back. At the half, it was 21-6 in favor of Georgia, and not much happened in the second half. Georgia ended up winning by a score of 30-6.

The Georgia offense was very lenient on the run game against Vanderbilt. They rushed for 323 yards as a team, D’Andre Swift had 147 of those by himself. Jake Fromm didn’t light up the stat sheet, but he managed the game very well. He threw for 156 yards and added a touchdown. All things considered, it was a good showing offensively from Georgia.

The Georgia defense played very well, and only allowed a total of 6 points. The Bulldogs only gave up 225 total yards as well (109 in the air and 116 on the ground). The one stat that is a small concern to many Georgia fans around the country is the penalties. This obviously wasn’t solely on the offense or defense, but 10 penalties for 115 yards is a lot in one game, and in a big game against Notre Dame or Florida, those penalties will certainly add up.

Kirby Smart in home openers

This will be Kirby Smart’s fourth year at Georgia and fourth year overall as a head coach. Let’s see how he has faired in home openers as a head coach:

-2016: Georgia win over Nicholls State
-2017: Georgia win over Appalachian State
-2018: Georgia win over Austin Peay

Murray State week one review

This game was never really close for the Pikeville Bears. The Bears got on the board early in the first quarter with a field goal, but then Murray State took the kickoff back for a touchdown. After that, it was smooth sailing for the Racers. Murray State went on to win the game 59-20.

The Racers had a very balanced attack offensively in this game. They totaled 465 yards on offense, with 216 coming in the air, and 249 coming on the ground. To make the performance even better, the Racers did not turn the ball over against Pikeville.

The Racer defense was a bit of a different story. After giving up three points on their opening drive, they didn’t give up any points until Pikeville erupted for 14 in the second quarter. Giving up 20 points to Pikeville is a little concerning for Racer fans, considering that the defense was the strength of this year’s team. The Racers will have their hands full going up against a high powered offense led by Jake Fromm and D’Andre Swift this weekend.

Mitch Stewart in opening road games

This will be Mitch Stewart’s fifth year at Murray State and his fifth year overall as a head coach. Let’s take a look to see how Stewart has done in his team’s first road games:

-2015: Murray State loss at Northern Illinois
-2016: Murray State loss at Illinois
-2017: Murray State loss at Missouri State
-2018: Murray State loss at Central Arkansas
