After Wake Forest graduate transfer QB Jamie Newman opted out of the 2020 season last week, it left the Georgia Bulldogs looking for a new starting quarterback.

That job will almost certainly go to either USC transfer JT Daniels or D’Wan Mathis, who have been splitting first-team reps recently.

After Monday’s practice, talented Georgia CB Tyson Campbell weighed in on the battle, saying they’re similar in their strengths:

“JT [Daniels] and D’Wan [Mathis] have been competing,” Campbell said via an email from Georgia. “Both have very strong arms. Both are very mobile. Both are very intelligent and know the offense. They’re both great quarterbacks, and I’m excited for us to have them on our team this year.”

Daniels has yet to be fully cleared for contact yet after tearing his ACL last year, but he has been doing a lot this fall already.

We’ll see who starts for the Dawgs when they take on Arkansas on Sept. 26.
