The Georgia Bulldogs were running low on quarterbacks this spring when last year’s backup quarterback, Brice Ramsey, decided to transfer from the program.

However, somewhere along the line, Ramsey had a change of heart and ended up staying with the Bulldogs.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart is excited to have the experienced senior back in the mix. Speaking at his team’s annual trip to Camp Sunshine — a camp for children battling cancer — Smart told Macon.com he was happy to see Ramsey participate in the event:

“He cares about Georgia,” Smart said. “For him to be here today with these kids and interact, that’s showing he’s giving back and he’s all in. It means a lot to see him here.”

With sophomore Jacob Eason entrenched as the starter, Ramsey is expected to compete with true freshman Jake Fromm for the backup spot. Smart said he thinks both players will bring their best this fall:

“There will be good competition,” Smart said. “The good thing about the way we practice is all of them get reps. He’ll continue to get reps and all of those guys will rotate. It was hard for us to get quarterbacks in the spring. Now we have enough quarterbacks to get reps.”

Ramsey didn’t attempt a single pass in 2016, but has thrown 74 times in his Georgia career, completing 45 passes for 582 yards and four touchdowns.
