Georgia recruiting has been the cream of the crop in recent years under head coach Kirby Smart. That’s not likely to change any time soon, but the Bulldogs did suffer one loss on the recruiting trail to begin the week.

On Monday, 5-star tight end and in-state prospect Landen Thomas out of Colquitt County High School announced he is no longer pledged to the Bulldogs. Instead, Thomas is committing to Mike Norvell’s Florida State program via the 2024 recruiting class.

According to the 247 Sports Composite, the 6-foot-4 and 235-pound Thomas is the top TE in the country and the 24th overall player nationally for the 2024 recruiting cycle. He becomes the highest-ranked prospect currently committed to the Seminoles.

While losing a major in-state prospect like Thomas never feels great, the Bulldogs still stand well-equipped in the TE room moving forward. Georgia just added a pair of 4-star TE prospects in Pearce Spurlin and Lawson Luckie via the 2023 recruiting class. 5-star prospect Elyiss Williams in the 2025 recruiting class is also committed and expected to play TE for the Bulldogs.
