Coming off his ninth season of 10 or more wins at the University of Georgia, coach Mark Richt accepted a multi-year extension Wednesday worth $4 million/season through 2019.

Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity provided a brief statement on the extension, backing the Bulldogs’ recent run of success under their longtime coach who is 136-48 all-time at the program:

Last season, the Bulldogs led the SEC in scoring offense (41.3 PPG) and rushing offense (257.9 YPG).

This extension should quiet some of the naysayers who have been critical of Richt’s lack of national success in recent years after his team has failed to appear in the SEC Championship Game back-to-back straight seasons. He was even mentioned as being on the hot seat after rare rivalry game losses to Florida and Georgia Tech this season.

The Bulldogs have two league titles under Richt and have finished in the Top 10 of the final AP rankings seven times.
