It’s not often that an SEC team makes the trip north to South Bend, Indiana, to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Therefore, when it does happen, it’s treated like a special occasion.

That’s the way Georgia fans looked at it, anyway, flocking to the north like geese in the summer to support their team in a huge 20-19 win over the Fighting Irish.

After the statement victory, Bulldogs LB Lorenzo Carter said there were so many Georgia fans in attendance that it felt like a home game (via OnlineAthens.com):

“It felt like a home game, man,” Carter said. “Fourth quarter, I saw those lights come up and it was crazy. It just felt good. It feels good.”

WR Terry Godwin agreed, saying it was special when Georgia fans lit up Notre Dame’s stadium with their cell phone lights heading into the fourth quarter:

“It made us feel like we were right at home,” Godwin said. “The fourth quarter with the lights on, it was something special.”

At 2-0, the Bulldogs are perhaps building something special of their own. In a wide-open SEC East division, Georgia and coach Kirby Smart will try to ride the support of their fans all the way to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game this December.
