The Georgia Bulldogs have put together one of the best recruiting classes in school history, signing a nation-leading six 5-star athletes so far and rounding out the class with 12 4-star players and four 3-star recruits.

However, with National Signing Day quickly approaching, there is still work to be done for coach Kirby Smart and his staff. That’s because Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide are breathing down their necks.

Ohio State has the country’s No. 1 class, but Georgia could still catch the Buckeyes and hold off Alabama if all goes according to plan.

With at least one more 5-star athlete and a couple of additional 4-star players strongly considering the Bulldogs, there’s plenty of time for them to make big splashes Wednesday.

Alabama, of course, will also add some talented players Wednesday, so it’ll be up to Smart and his staff to keep pace with the Crimson Tide. That won’t be easy, but by the end of National Signing Day, it’s not inconceivable to think that the Bulldogs could indeed sign the SEC’s No. 1 overall recruiting class.

So, who are the players the Bulldogs will be targeting the most in the next couple of days?

At the top of the list is 5-star CB Tyson Campbell out of Florida, the No. 2 corner in the 2018 class. Campbell visited the Miami Hurricanes on Feb. 2, but he’s still widely considered to be leaning toward the Dawgs.

Getting him would bring Georgia’s 5-star count to seven, which would be the most since 247Sports began tracking recruits in 2000. Here’s an annual look at who signed the most 5-stars during the past decade:

That’s not all the heavy lifting the Dawgs need to do, though. They also need to try to persuade at least two out of a pair of 4-star players and one 3-star recruit to head to Athens.

Those players are 4-star WR Tommy Bush from Texas, 4-star ATH Mario Goodich from Missouri and in-state 3-star DE Caleb Johnson. Getting Bush would be a big addition, and he visited the Dawgs on Dec. 15.

Goodich visited Jan. 19 and Johnson made the trip to Athens on Jan. 12. With only three spots remaining, landing Campbell and the two 4-star players would be huge for the Dawgs, but outside of Campbell, the other three are projected to go elsewhere based on their 247Sports.com Crystal Ball predictions.

Meanwhile, over in Tuscaloosa, the Tide only have one 5-star signee so far. They are still in the mix for three others — CB Patrick Surtain Jr., CB Olaijah Griffin and OT Nicholas Petit-Frere — but all three are likely to head elsewhere on Wednesday.

If Saban and the Tide miss on all three of those prospects, it likely won’t matter what three players the Dawgs sign, as they’d likely hold onto the SEC’s top spot in that scenario.

Smart and his staff have done an impressive job bringing an incredible 2018 class to Athens, but there is still a little bit of work to be done. The Dawgs are in good position to bring Alabama’s streak of recruiting dominance to an end, though, and it’ll be interesting to see how things play out on Wednesday.
