Georgia signee named high school national defensive player of the year
Georgia 5-star signee Nolan Smith was named the Maxwell Football Club Defensive National High School Player of the Year. The Maxwell Football Club sent out a release Wednesday.
Smith was the nation’s No. 1 overall player from the class of 2019 in 247Sports Composite Rankings. He signed with Georgia during December’s Early Signing Period.
The 6-foot-3, 232-pound prospect could be a terror off the edge in Kirby Smart’s defense, and he could garner immediate playing time. He recorded 47 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks during the 2018 season at IMG Academy.
“Leadership, innovation, and an indisputable drive to be the best are attributes that Bru, Nolan, and adidas share,” Shannon Ferbrache, Director of Grassroots Sports Marketing for adidas, said in a release. “We got to see the leadership and camaraderie that Bru and Nolan shared with their teammates both on and off the field during the 2019 All American Bowl game and we are excited to these outstanding young men as the 2018 Maxwell High School Players of the Year presented by adidas.”
