Singer-songwriter Gregg Allman was a supporter of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia.

Because of that generosity, Georgia’s Redcoat Marching Band on Saturday at Sanford Stadium against South Carolina, will perform three Allman Brothers Band songs.

Two years ago, The Gregg Allman Scholarship Fund was established by the musician with the UGA Music Business Program and is awarded to students seeking a career in the music industry. During halftime of the game, the Gregg Allman Scholarship recipients will be recognized.

According to a UGA release when the scholarship was announced, the scholarship was one result of a successful Gregg Allman tribute concert at the Fox Theatre in January 2014.

Allman and band manager Michael Lehman decided to use the proceeds to benefit the future of music at Syracuse University, where Lehman’s daughter was a student at the time, and the University of Georgia. Allman lived in in Richmond Hill, near Savannah, before he died earlier this year.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 pm and be televised on CBS.
