Greg McElroy took time on his Always College Football podcast to react to Monday’s major recruiting news out of Athens.

Dylan Raiola — a 5-star quarterback prospect and the nation’s No. 1 recruit for the class of 2024 — revealed his commitment to Kirby Smart’s Georgia program. Considering the Bulldogs are coming off of back-to-back national titles, it is definitely a “rich getting richer” scenario for McElroy.

“The rich have officially gotten richer as the No. 1 player in the 2024 recruiting class has officially chosen the Georgia Bulldogs,” said McElroy. “And it’s of course at a position of significant interest.”

Even considering the number of elite prospects the Bulldogs pull in, McElroy called Raiola’s move “massive.” He pointed to the recent flip from in-state TE Landen Thomas and the transfer of young DL Bear Alexander as some of the question marks coming out of 2022.

“This is massive even for a program where you think where Georgia’s been,” said McElroy. “This is a program that has had so many 5-star guys, think about QBs, too… This is really really significant because it felt like — at least for a moment — that Georgia was losing a couple of key pieces.”

At the end of the day, McElroy knows Raiola’s commitment answers some of the questions facing Georgia, particularly surrounding the promotion of Mike Bobo to OC:

“People were starting to wonder ‘Hey where is this thing going?’ Mike Bobo’s coming in, there were some question marks about all of that. Well, Dylan Raiola clearly confirmed that this is significant, that this is still a destination, and I would imagine now that the top QB has made his decision, other players will flock to play with Raiola here in the future,” McElroy explained.
