Since taking over in Athens, Kirby Smart’s Georgia program hasn’t been an underdog very often. However, that is indeed the case heading into the rematch against Alabama in the upcoming SEC Championship Game.

The No. 4 Bulldogs are currently listed as a 13-point underdog to No. 1 Alabama on the neutral field of Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Will their status as underdogs serve as extra motivation for Georgia this week leading up to the game? Jake Fromm isn’t buying into that talk.

“We don’t need to be an underdog to be motivated. That’s not what is going to motivate us,” Fromm said during his most recent media availability. “We are playing for the guys in the locker room, playing for the coaches and the university. We are going to go out and play a great football game. It’s going to be a fun one.”

Of course, the two programs met in the most recent National Championship Game, ironically enough, in the same building that annually hosts the SEC Championship Game. Alabama came from behind to win that game and force overtime, winning 26-23 to win the national title.

How much is that game weighing on Fromm’s mind this week? None at all, according to the Georgia QB.

“I’ve flushed it out of my mind. It is what it is,” he answered. “Just ready for a new opportunity to come out and play. Play my best, play our best and let’s go out and win it.”

For Georgia to get a win, Fromm will most assuredly need to play his best football. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, the QB is riding a major hot streak heading into this game. Since Georgia’s Oct. 20 bye week, Fromm has thrown 11 touchdowns to only one interception and is completing around 77 percent of his passes in UGA’s six-game winning streak.

That’s the level of performance needed to beat a team of Alabama’s caliber and something Fromm has shown he can deliver.
