Not much changed this week in the latest College Football Playoffs, but one ESPN analyst believes the gap between Georgia and Alabama has widened in recent days.

ESPN analyst Joey Galloway said he was not surprised by the committee’s decision to keep Georgia at No. 1 and Alabama at No. 2. Both are undefeated, but the strength of their schedules are one of the most talked about debates of this college football season.

Galloway said that Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm, who was 16-for-22 for 196 passing yards and two touchdowns in the South Carolina win, is one of the differences.

“Watching Georgia play this week and watching Jake Fromm throw 22 times – I think he was that question mark for Georgia,” Galloway said, according to Dawgs 247. “Watch Alabama not look great for the first time this season against LSU. I bet that gap widened.”

While Georgia’s running game and depth at running back is widely viewed as the team’s main strength, Fromm’s passing ability has been questioned multiple times this season. Still, he’s completed 95-of-150 passes this season for 1,459 yards, 15 touchdowns and four interceptions. His 172.4 passer rating, 9.7 yards per attempt are among the top players in the SEC and country.

“This week they came out and they let Fromm throw a bunch of hitches, a bunch of slants,” Galloway said. “It was like they said to themselves ‘we have to get this quarterback ready.’ We have to get him ready because Auburn is coming … SEC Championship is coming.

“Jake Fromm is going to be important to that equation. I have been begging Georgia to get this young man ready. And they started that process last week.”

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit is still looking for more from Fromm.

“I still want to see, can Jake Fromm throw the ball on third and seven at Jordan-Hare consistently,” Herbstreit said. “The running game is not going to be what it normally has been in the SEC. So that’s their concern. So until they show it, we have to wonder. It is nothing personal.”
