This upcoming Saturday would have been the conclusion of Georgia’s spring practice as the Bulldogs were set to compete in Sanford Stadium for the 2020 edition of the program’s annual G-Day spring football game. Of course, that event has been canceled by the Southeastern Conference due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In place of G-Day, Georgia has come up with the idea to hold a Virtual G-Day event this Saturday, which will include the re-broadcast of the program’s 2019 win over Notre Dame on the SEC Network. That broadcast will begin at 2 p.m. ET.

Kirby Smart will be tweeting out his thoughts on the game in realtime, Smart can be found on Twitter @KirbySmartUGA, while the Bulldog radio crew will be participating in a Facebook live broadcast for fans to watch during the game.

During Smart’s recent appearance on Atlanta-based 93.7 FM “The Front Row” radio show, the Georgia coach was asked to share more information regarding his role in the Virtual G-Day event.

“I think it was an opportunity, you know? We’re looking for every opportunity we can to get in front of, No. 1, our loyal fan base Dawg Nation,” Smart said on the show. “Our boosters and Magill members, our recruits, and what better way to showcase that than a home game against Notre Dame that was just a spectacular presentation put together by our athletic department with the lights and different things? So we’re jumping on it.

“They will have a retelecast on at two o’clock on the SEC Network and I’ll be live-tweeting throughout that. There’s a chance I go Facebook Live with our radio group and give them a few minutes, Facebook Live and just go on with them in between tweets. I’m looking forward to it. It’s an opportunity to share some of the thoughts and insight and what’s going on during the game that you know maybe the average fan, somebody not like you guys that are so smart, might not know what is going on.”

The Georgia coach was later asked during the interview how in-depth he would get with his Twitter comments regarding the Notre Dame game and while he noted he would like to give full details of plays, he also doesn’t want to give commentary that goes over the head of casual fans.

Either way, this will be something for Georgia fans to look forward to this weekend as 90,000-plus fans were likely planning on being in Sanford Stadium this Saturday and are now stuck at home fighting boredom on the weekends.
