Kirby Smart details what stands out about TCU ahead of National Championship
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart met with media during Tuesday’s SEC teleconference to discuss the upcoming national championship game against TCU, and what makes the No. 3 Horned Frogs a tough opponent.
He pointed out first-year head coach Sonny Dykes to start off. Dykes, formerly the head coach at SMU, took the Horned Frogs from a 5-7 record in 2021 to a chance at the national title and a season that saw the Horned Frogs knock off top 25 teams left and right.
Perhaps most impressive to Smart is Dykes’ ability to get the players to buy in.
Kirby Smart on what stands out about TCU: “They’ve got a tremendous team, a tremendous program. He’s won everywhere he’s been … Their kids believe. They have a lot of similiarities to our kids in terms of the culture created there, the way they play, the way they believe”

He’s been impressed with TCU QB Max Duggan as well. Duggan has thrown for 32 touchdowns this season and played well against the Wolverines. He totaled 4 touchdowns against Michigan, 2 rushing and 2 through the air, while also adding 225 yards passing.
The Horned Frogs and Bulldogs face off on Monday Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. EST.
Duggan is a gamer and TCU seems to be on a team of destiny this year. Dykes is a quality coach! These guys are easy to pull for…if it were anyone but us, I’d love to buy a ticket on the hype train…
Comparing many of the major statics between Georgia and TCU. The one advantage that TCU looks to have, is in long scrimmage plays.
The Dawgs will need to limit those long plays. If they do, they might cover the ridiculous betting line. If they don’t, they will be in another shootout type game.
1. If TCU is in this game then they are #2 or #1. Voters don’t over-ride the bowl/ or knock out system.
2. If anyone would have a case for being ranked ahead of TCU it would be Kansas State who won the Big 12, my understanding. Certainly not a Big 10 team who only proved at least one of them shouldn’t have been in the top 4 bowl games. The system that put two of them in there instead of a PAC or an ACC is just cow manure.
Sing it, Todd.
You and truegrit should create a committee to right this injustice. Soon enough the football equivalent of the golf GHIN system will be in place, and then the injustice that a 9-4 golfer is equal to or better than an 11-1 golfer will be resolved
That GHIN system is FUBAR. 8 out of 20??
It certainly has made sandbagging much more difficult!
Arguably. But it is meant to establish potential vs actual.
Unfair I think. Especially if you play infrequently.
Very True, the new GHIN changes don’t help the occasional player, takes a lot longer to move the needle up when not playing regularly. For old fa rt retirees like me who play 3 or 4 times a week, I love the new rules.
