Though Georgia has been in perfectly capable hands with freshman QB Jake Fromm, sophomore Jacob Eason — the starter entering this season — has been working his way back from a knee injury suffered during a Week 1 win over Appalachian State.

Now, there’s a legitimate question as to whether Eason should get his starting job back when he returns, as Fromm has played well enough to earn more starts.

However, the first thing that needs to happen is for Eason to get healthy, and during Monday’s press conference, coach Kirby Smart said the sophomore quarterback is trending in the right direction and could be ready for this weekend’s game at Tennessee:

Though Fromm has been playing well, having a backup like Eason ready to go if needed would be a huge boost for the Bulldogs.

Also, if the freshman starts to struggle, the team can make the switch back to the more-experienced player at the quarterback position.

First though, Smart needs to find out if Eason is healthy enough to play this week. If not, the decision won’t need to be made for another week.
