Georgia is returning to Atlanta for the second consecutive season following a dominating 34-17 win over Kentucky in Lexington. The win clinched the SEC East for the Bulldogs, as both teams entered the game at 5-1 in conference play on the season. Now at 6-1, the Bulldogs hold the tie-breaker regardless of what occurs moving forward.

The Bulldogs’ impressive rushing performance was the key to earning the big win on Saturday, as Georgia piled up 331 rushing yards on 50 carries against the Wildcats. Both D’Andre Swift (156 yards) and Elijah Holyfield (115) broke the century mark in the game.

Immediately following the game, Kirby Smart was interviewed on the field by CBS. Here is what the Georgia coach had to say about his team’s incredible rushing performance.

“Good backs, good recruiting and toughness. Our kids are tough, resilient, they fight,” Smart said. “I have to give credit to Coach Stoops and his team, they have a bunch of seniors, they play really hard but our guys played extremely physical today and answered the bell.”

Smart was then asked about winning the SEC East for the second time in as many seasons.

“Well, I think this year’s team had to answer a lot of questions. They had to battle, it didn’t come easy, at the end of the day, it never comes easy,” he noted. “I want to give credit to those two quarterbacks on our team. Justin Fields comes into the game and made some huge plays for our team. He continues to get better, he had one of his best weeks of practice, played well in the game and Jake played great, too.”

With this win, Georgia improves to 8-1 on the season. The Bulldogs host SEC rival Auburn next weekend in Athens.
