The Bulldogs remain undefeated after hosting SEC annual foe Vanderbilt in between the Hedges on Saturday night and coming away with a commanding 41-13 win over the Commodores.

The win boosts Georgia record to 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in the SEC.

After the game, Kirby Smart offered up his comments on Georgia’s second-half performance against Vanderbilt. Keep in mind, the Bulldogs scored 17 points in the third quarter (the most scored in a single quarter on Saturday) and held the Commodores to a junk touchdown with less than one minute on the game clock.

“Really sloppy, not the kind of performance we need,” Smart said of his team’s late performance. “For us to grow as a team, we’ve got to get better and right now we’ve got to challenge a lot of guys on our team to practice better, play better and do some more things. We are not where we need to be at all.”

The Georgia coach was then asked about so many freshmen getting on the field in this SEC contest.

“Well, I don’t know what it says right now. It says we got a lot of freshmen with opportunities to play,” Smart continued. “They have to grow. They had a chance to go in the game and they didn’t do a lot of good stuff with it.”

Smart was also asked to share his opinion on Justin Fields’ performance from the game — the freshman completed three of six passes for 53 yards and rushed it four times for 18 yards.

“He’s growing. He’s growing each week, he’s getting better each week,” he added. “He’s developing, both quarterback coaches and coordinators are doing a good job but he needs to continue to grow in our offense.”
