Kirby Smart reacts to early deficit, Georgia's plan for 2nd half at Tennessee
Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs bounced back from an early deficit after a touchdown by Tennessee on the first play of the game from scrimmage. Smart spoke to Jenny Dell of CBS Sports at halftime with a 24-10 lead.
“Well, we didn’t play the first play right,” Smart said of Tennessee’s 75-yard touchdown. “We came out the next drive and stopped them. Offense has done a good job of possessing the ball, and we had a really sloppy run fit there on the first play.”
Smart was asked how Georgia wins each moment in the 2nd half, which is one of his messages to the players.
“Go in here and correct the mistakes, be who we are, and win the line of scrimmage,” Smart said.
Georgia scored 24 straight points as Dillon Bell had a huge game already by halftime. Bell threw an 18-yard pass, and also had 4 rushing yards and 3 catches for 47 yards. On an afternoon with Tennessee royalty Peyton Manning and Dolly Parton on the field as Parton gave her rendition of “Rocky Top,” Georgia ruled the day.
Georgia (10-0, 7-0) last week clinched the SEC East title and a spot against No. 8 Alabama in the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 2. Georgia’s on a 27-game winning streak.
