Deangelo Gibbs’ status with Georgia is still uncertain.

Although he’s currently enrolled in classes, Kirby Smart, who spoke to the media at the “Coaches Caravan” event at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center, clarified that enrolled doesn’t mean he’s with the team.

“We’ll make a decision when the time comes,” Smart said, via Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald. “Being enrolled in school, that doesn’t signify that he’s with our roster right now.”

Smart added, “I think nothing’s done on Deangelo Gibbs until he’s back with us. That verdict’s still out.”

Gibbs was absent from the team during the final stages of the season and wasn’t enrolled in classes earlier this spring.

The former touted prospect came to Georgia with much hype. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 49 overall player, the No. 4 safety and the state of Georgia’s No. 6 overall prospect in the 2017 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. Gibbs eventually signed with Georgia after an intense recruitment that involved Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee.

The Loganville native recorded three tackles in 2017. He could be a tremendous asset for Smart’s secondary this season.

With Gibbs currently being enrolled in classes, that’s a positive start for a potential return, but it appears he has a few more hurdles to overcome in order to rejoin the team.
