Kirk Herbstreit has now seen Georgia up close and in person, and has an assessment of the Bulldogs after they dispatched of formerly top 10 Arkansas.

The ESPN commentator has a lot of respect for coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs, especially on defense. But he still has questions about quarterback as Smart and the Bulldogs look to move ahead with JT Daniels battling a lat injury, and Stetson Bennett filling in.

“I think you could make a strong case that they’re the top team in the country,” Herbstreit said on the ESPN College Football Podcast. “I think if they figure out the quarterback situation — that’s the one thing to me that’s kind of holding them back a little bit. They haven’t had to win a game with the quarterback yet, but at some point they will. And where is JT Daniels in this whole thing with that lat injury? It seems like it’s literally a day-to-day thing. Will that go on all the way to Atlanta in the SEC Championship with that kind of injury? Or will they give him 2 weeks or 3 weeks just saying, ‘You’re off.’ Just go rest.”

Georgia travels to Auburn this week, and next week plays host to Kentucky as it continues to be widely viewed as one of the top 2 teams in the country.
