Georgia DT Trenton Thompson had a breakout performance in last year’s Liberty Bowl, but he didn’t have a great 2017 season.

After recording five sacks last year, Thompson didn’t record any this year and saw some of his other numbers drop drastically as well.

However, on Friday afternoon, he decided to declare for the 2018 NFL Draft, announcing his decision on Instagram:

“After long discussion with my family and coaches I have decided to enter the 2018 NFL Draft. I would like to thank my family, teammates, Coach Smart and the rest of the staff for all of their support the last 3 years,” Thompson’s post reads. “Coming to Athens was the best decision of my life and the memories and friendships I’ve made will last a lifetime. Playing in the NFL has been a lifelong dream of mine and I’m excited to see what the future holds. Even though I’m moving on to the next chapter, Georgia will always be home! I certainly want to thank the greatest fans in the country for their passion and support! Thank you Jolly Nation and Go Dawgs!!”

Thompson may not have had the best 2017 season, but he does have the size that NFL scouts will want from an interior defensive lineman.

It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up, but his presence will certainly be missed in Athens next year.
