The weekend’s biggest recruiting news came early Sunday evening when 5-star RB John Emery announced his pledge to Georgia in a tweet. The commitment came as somewhat of a surprise as more than 21 recruiting experts had submitted a Crystal Ball to 247Sports and all picks had gone to either LSU or Mississippi State.

If Georgia fans visit Emery’s recruiting profile, they may feel like crediting head coach Kirby Smart or assistant coaches Cortez Hankton and Dell McGee with landing the No. 2 running back in the country. Hankton is listed as the primary recruiter of Emery with McGee the secondary recruiter.

Freshman QB Justin Fields, however, appears to feel that he deserves some credit.

“There’s no way way I’m not the best recruiter in the country,” Fields said in a congratulatory tweet to Emery.

Judging by the emoji, it’s safe to say Fields isn’t trying to take away from the staff’s accomplishment. But Georgia can expect that more talented players will want to play alongside the top dual-threat quarterback of the 2018 class.
