Clemson coach Dabo Swinney claimed his first college football national championship in January, but when the 2017 season kicks off, it won’t be easy for anyone to win their first title, as Alabama and Florida State, both led by coaches with championship rings, will be the favorites to win.

Though the popular money would seemingly be on Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh among coaches without a title on their resume, ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum likes Texas coach Tom Herman and Georgia coach Kirby Smart’s chances even more:

The Bulldogs are the favorites to win the SEC East, but they’ve had trouble living up to preseason expectations in years past.

Still, with an outstanding recruiting class coming in this fall, Smart is building a strong program in Athens. The Bulldogs should be a threat to reach the SEC Championship Game this fall and in the coming years, which would have them in the College Football Playoff picture.
