Paul Finebaum shares concerns on where Georgia stands at this point in season
Georgia needed a win to bounce back from a surprising home loss to South Carolina, and that’s what it got Saturday, when the Bulldogs hosted Kentucky and notched a 21-0 victory.
It was a necessary win, but it may not have come in the most impressive fashion. SEC Network analyst and radio host Paul Finebaum broke down Georgia’s victory during his appearance on WJOX The Roundtable on Monday, sharing where he thinks the Bulldogs stand at this point in the season.
“I think [head coach Kirby Smart] played it pretty conservatively. Now fortunately for him, he has two weeks to figure it all out, exact same position he was in a year ago when all was lost after LSU eviscerated the Dawgs down at Tiger Stadium,” Finebaum said on the show. “I still think Georgia is a contender.”
But that doesn’t quite mean Finebaum thinks the Bulldogs are in position to be that just yet.
“I need to see more from Georgia before I’m lock solid behind them,” Finebaum stated.
The Bulldogs will have several opportunities in the next few weeks to prove they’re contenders to win the SEC championship and reach the College Football playoff. They return from their bye week to face No. 7 Florida, Missouri and No. 9 Auburn in a pivotal three-game stretch that starts with the matchup against the Gators on Nov. 2.
That trio of games could define Georgia’s season, as it could quickly climb back up the rankings with wins over two of the other top teams from the SEC. Or, the Bulldogs could fall if they can’t get through that stretch successfully.
