Quay Walker’s college football career is still in its infancy but at this point in his career, he’s still most known for his infamous commitment ceremony.

If you’ve somehow forgotten it, the Georgia native had decommitted from Alabama during his senior season at Crisp County High School and was down to Georgia and Tennessee leading up to 2018 National Signing Day. While many believed Walker was on his way to Rocky Top to play for Jeremy Pruitt, the Peach State native took advantage of that perception to add some extra flair to his commitment ceremony.

With various school hats in front of him lined out on a table, the first hat Walker picked up was a Tennessee cap. Walker then proceeded to toss across the room before putting on a Georgia hat. To this day, many know him for this incident but the Bulldog defender is hoping to one day change that fact, as he regrets ever disrespecting the Vols and Coach Pruitt.

“Yeah, I hate that. To be honest with you, I hate talking about it, but I know it’s something that will be brought up for the rest of my life,” Walker said recently. “Looking back on it, I think it was very immature of me doing that. At the same time, I was just a kid from a small town just happy to be where I was and whatnot. Of course, a lot of people thought I was going to Tennessee – I still have respect for Coach Pruitt and the University of Tennessee.”

It’s easy to see where Walker is coming from now and back then. Unless you’ve had two rapid SEC fan bases dying to know where you will go to college, you probably won’t understand the pressure and anxiety of making a decision of that caliber with so many eyes upon you.

While Georgia fans loved it and Tennessee fans loathed it, Walker regrets ever doing it and has to live with his split-second decision for the time being. Thankfully, Walker has plenty of time to create a legacy in Athens that goes well beyond his college commitment ceremony and he’s on the path to doing just that as a defender on one of the nation’s best defenses.
