Georgia is reportedly adding another experienced offensive coordinator to its staff ahead of the 2020 season.

Multiple outlets are reporting that Southern Miss offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner will join Kirby Smart’s staff. Mansell writes that the position has not yet been determined, but Faulkner is expected to serve in a “quality control/analyst type off-field role” per Rusty Mansell of Dawgs247. As of publishing, Faulkner still describes himself as Southern Miss’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on his Twitter account and references recruiting Mississippi and Georgia for the Golden Eagles.

Faulkner joined the Southern Miss coaching staff in February 2019. Prior to that, he spent three seasons as the Arkansas State offensive coordinator and was also the tight ends coach for two of the three seasons.

Faulkner played college football at Valdosta State from 2000-03 and then a senior season at Texas A&M Commerce. Kirby Smart was on the Valdosta State coaching staff in 2000 and 2001.

Faulkner began his coaching career at Valdosta State as a graduate assistant in 2005. After one season with the Blazers, he served as an offensive graduate assistant at Georgia, working with the offensive line and quarterbacks. He returned to Valdosta State in 2007 as the team’s quarterbacks coach.
