It is being reported that the marijuana charges brought against Georgia LB Natrez Patrick following the SEC Championship Game have been dismissed as of Thursday morning.

Patrick and WR Jayson Stanley were arrested following the SEC Championship after Stanley was pulled over for speeding and charged with a DUI. According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, Stanley’s charges were also reduced from a DUI to a misdemeanor possession of marijuana and speeding.

According to Patrick’s attorney, the police found a loose marijuana leaf smaller than a penny in the passenger seat where Patrick was sitting at the time of the arrest. He claims Patrick was unaware that the leaf was there when he got in the car.

Schlabach also shared a photo of the marijuana that was recovered as evidence from the night of the arrest:

The dismissal of Patrick’s charges is significant because it was his third drug-related arrest during his time at UGA which would have likely led to his dismissal from the program. It remains to be seen what punishment the school will level at Patrick, but his attorney says it would be a shame for him to be kicked off the team after being cleared in court:

“Obviously, the coaches are going to have make that decision,” Healan said. “But from my perspective as his attorney, he didn’t do anything wrong and didn’t commit a crime. It would be a shame to see someone punished after he was cleared in a court of law.”

It will also be interesting to see if Patrick will be allowed to play in the Rose Bowl now that these charges have been dismissed. Georgia would likely wish to have all players available as the Bulldogs look to limit Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield.
