A former Georgia wide receiver who made a splash as a rookie for the New England Patriots has been released, according to multiple reports.

In his rookie season, Malcolm Mitchell recorded 32 receptions for 401 yards and four touchdowns. Mitchell’s NFL career is most known for his play in Super Bowl LI when he made five fourth-quarter catches during the Patriots’ comeback win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Earlier this summer, the Patriots dangled Mitchell as they looked for trade partners. But ultimately, they didn’t find any takers knowing he still dealt with a knee injury suffered at the end of the 2017 preseason.

Mitchell was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, and ultimately made six starts and played in 14 games following a dislocated elbow that preseason.
