The NCAA revealed its official ruling on the length of Todd Gurley’s suspension early Wednesday morning, determining that the Georgia star running back must sit out four games and will be eligible to return on Nov. 15.

In response to the NCAA’s ruling, the University of Georgia released an official statement regarding Gurley and the school’s plans on appealing the NCAA’s decision immediately.

Tuesday afternoon the University received the decision from the NCAA Student-Athlete Reinstatement staff regarding the University’s request for the reinstatement of Todd Gurley. The University plans to appeal the decision immediately.

Georgia originally applied for Gurley’s official reinstatement a week ago and many believed he would return in time for this weekend’s matchup against the Florida Gators. According to the NCAA, however, it appears this wasn’t the first incident involving Gurley accepting extra benefits for signing memorabilia.

“In determining the appropriate reinstatement conditions, a 30 percent withholding condition is consistent with precedent in similar cases,” the official NCAA release explained. “Additional withholding was strongly considered because the violations occurred over multiple years with multiple individuals and the student received extensive rules education about the prohibition of receiving payment for autographs.”

Because of Georgia’s plans to appeal, a membership committee which oversees the reinstatement process will review the appeal this week. According to the NCAA, the punishment cannot be increased as a result of the appeal and can only be reduced or removed altogether.
