Georgia running back Sony Michel seems to be one small step closer to being 100 percent.

Courtesy of UGASports.com’s Radi Nabulsi, Michel was seen participating in team drills without his cast on Saturday afternoon:

Earlier this month, coach Kirby Smart told reporters that Michel would be eased into his level of contribution during fall camp. It’s obvious that he has made some progress since.

“Sony is going to be limited at the beginning,” Smart said, according to AL.com. “There are going to be things that he can’t and cannot do. At the same time he’s going to work really hard on the conditioning aspect early on. I’m not comfortable with him right now having to fall and brace himself.”

Michel had surgery to repair a broken forearm following a freak ATV accident over the July 4 holiday weekend and the Georgia coaching staff has been very cautious with him during his road to recovery, hoping to have him ready to go — along with their other injured star running back, Nick Chubb — sometime in the first few weeks of the regular season.

The junior from Plantation (FL) rushed for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns last season, making seven starts following Chubb’s season-ending ACL injury.
