Kentucky has mined the state of Ohio for years but PJ Fleck and his Minnesota program just accomplished what few Big Ten programs have done in recent years and that’s beat out Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow for an Ohio prospect.

Dublin Coffman High School product Devon Williams announced on Friday his decision to flip his commitment from Kentucky to Minnesota. Williams committed to Kentucky back on Jan 27, 2020. Marrow was Kentucky’s primary recruiter of Williams.

Following this news, Kentucky is down to three commitments in the 2021 recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Williams is rated as a three-star prospect, the No. 29 outside linebacker in the nation and the No. 17 overall recruit from the state of Ohio for the 2021 recruiting cycle by 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Williams announced his decision with the following message posted to Twitter:

“After talking it over with my family, I would like to announce that I am decommitted from the University of Kentucky. Thank you to the coaches, staff and fans. The opportunity given as well as the support was greatly appreciated. Next, I want to say that my recruitment is not open. I’ve always dreamt of playing football at the next level, but also being somewhere I know will help develop me into the man I want to be. With that being said, I would like to also announce that I am 100 percent committed to the University of Minnesota!”
