Former Kentucky star RB Benny Snell Jr. has had a solid rookie campaign for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but now he’s got a little icing on top.

Snell scored on a 1-yard run with 10:36 left in the third quarter on Sunday to give the Steelers a 17-10 lead over the Cleveland Browns. Snell by early in the fourth quarter had 10 carries for 36 yards, including a 14-yarder.

Entering Sunday, Snell had appeared in 8 games with 216 yards on 49 carries after he missed 3 games because of knee surgery. Against the Cincinnati Bengals, Snell rushed for a career-high 98 rushing yards, including 63 in the fourth quarter when the Steelers took the lead for good.

“His spark (was) just in his run demeanor,” offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner told TribLive. “The idea of coming back from injury and not blinking from the first time he stepped on the practice field through the game. Man, he ran with strength. He ran with power. I think he’ll feel better in time.”

Beloved by UK fans, especially last season when he became a star in the SEC, Snell started 27 of 39 games at Kentucky as he broke or tied 14 school records, including career rushing yards (3,873), total touchdowns (48), rushing touchdowns (48) and 100-yard games (19). He ranks second in program rushing attempts (737) and third on all-time scoring (290).

Snell scored his 40th touchdown in just 31 games, the second fastest in SEC history to do so, and became first Wildcat to amass 1,000-yards in a season three times.
