The darling of the SEC through the first month of the season, Kentucky has already exceeded expectations and put up records not seen since the ’70s.

The 4-0 Wildcats dispatched of Mississippi State 28-7 on Saturday behind star running back Benny Snell, who rushed 25 times for 165 yards and four touchdowns. That took him past Randall Cobb for most touchdowns in Kentucky history.

Sports Illustrated’s Andy Staples wrote that the Wildcats, “certainly looked for real” against a “very talented” Mississippi State team as he ranked the No. 10. By comparison, Kentucky was No. 17 in the latest coaches poll.

Snell then responded to the previous week’s Twitter beef with Mississippi State players with some solid Photoshop work, Staples wrote.

“Meanwhile, Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen was virtually unblockable,” Staples wrote. “He had six tackles, including two for loss, and blew up Mississippi State plays all night. The Wildcats next face South Carolina, a team they’ve beaten in four consecutive meetings. Still, the Gamecocks can knock Kentucky back into the ranks of the unranked if the Wildcats aren’t prepared.”

Staples stopped short of mentioning Snell as a Heisman Trophy candidate, but that talk has already began elsewhere, and if he continues his solid play, like this week against South Carolina, that will only ramp up even more.
