The job Mark Stoops and his Kentucky staff have done recruiting their home state continues to pay off as the Wildcats have just picked up a new commitment from the Bluegrass State.

The latest prospect to join the program’s 2022 recruiting class hails from Danville as Jackson Smith of Boyle County High School has just announced his commitment to Kentucky. Smith is a kicker that also has the ability to punt the ball.

Smith’s father, Andy Smith, was an All-SEC punter for the Wildcats. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Smith is not currently rated by 247Sports Composite Rankings.

But don’t think Kentucky offered Jackson due to his father’s accolades in Lexington, he’s earned his scholarship offer as Prokicker.com named Smith the Ray Guy Specialist of the Year last season.

That honor came after Smith converted on four of six field goals, 54 of 58 extra points, and kicked the game-winning field gaol in overtime of the state championship game for Boyle. He also serves as Boyle’s punter and did not allow a single return yard from one of his punts during his junior season.

Following his commitment, Kentucky now holds five commitments in the 2022 recruiting cycle, three of which come from in-state prospects. The program’s recruiting class currently ranks No. 31 nationally and No. 9 in the SEC.
