Joey Gatewood officially enters NCAA transfer portal after losing Kentucky QB competition
On Sunday, Kentucky coach Mark Stoops announced that Penn State transfer Will Levis had won the Wildcats’ QB competition and would start in Week 1.
As often happens when a guy loses a quarterback competition, Stoops also revealed that Joey Gatewood had entered the NCAA transfer portal.
That news was made official on Monday, as Gatewood is now free to explore his other options ahead of the 2021 campaign:
Kentucky QB Joey Gatewood has entered the transfer portal. He was originally a top 50 prospect in the 2018 class who signed with Auburn out of HS.https://t.co/Qcql3by08Q

Kentucky will move forward with Levis as its starter and Beau Allen as the backup.
Gatewood transferred from Auburn to Kentucky ahead of the 2020 season. Last year, he threw for 109 yards, 0 touchdowns and 1 interception, adding 62 yards as a runner in limited action.
We’ll see where Gatewood ends up next, but it seems his time in Lexington has come to an end.
