When Kentucky lands 4- or 5-star recruits, they usually are for the basketball team.

However, coach Mark Stoops is building momentum with the football program, and that showed in a big way on Saturday morning, when 4-star 2019 S Keontra Smith committed to the Wildcats, according to a post he made on Twitter:

Smith, a Florida native, is a 5-11, 205-pound defensive back who is getting ready to enter his junior season this fall.

According to 247Sports, Smith is the No. 5 safety in the class of 2019 and the No. 9 overall recruit from the state of Florida.

If the Wildcats can keep Smith committed through next year, having him as a part of their 2019 class should help entice other highly rated recruits to head to Lexington.
